Victoria’s stepped up its game with the Solar Homes Program, an initiative by the government to help folks switch to solar without breaking the bank. It’s all about cutting down those hefty energy bills, taking on climate change, and giving renewable energy a big thumbs up.
Here’s what’s up for grabs with the Solar Homes Program:
- Solar Panel Savings: Pop some solar panels on your roof, and watch your energy costs plummet. The program’s dishing out rebates of up to $1,400, and they’re even throwing in an interest-free loan to help get those panels up without the financial stress.
- Hot Water Handouts: Since heating water eats up a ton of energy, there’s up to $1,000 in rebates waiting for you to switch to solar or heat pump hot water systems. It’s all about keeping that hot water flowing without the high bills.
- Battery Boost: If you’re ready to take your solar setup to the next level, there’s an interest-free loan of up to $8,800 for solar battery systems. This means more power when you need it and a stronger, more reliable grid.
Are You Eligible for the Solar Homes Program?
Before you dive in, here’s the checklist to make sure you’re good to go:
- You’ll need to be an owner occupier where you’re installing the solar goodies.
- The combined taxable income of all property owners should be less than $210,000 per year.
- Your home’s worth should be under $3 million.
- You haven’t received a solar rebate for your property before.
- For the battery bonus, you need at least a 5kW solar panel setup or plan to get one with your new battery.
- The battery should store at least 6kWh and be on Solar Victoria’s approved list.
- You must get pre-approval from your Distributed Network Service Provider (DNSP) for safe battery grid connection. (We can help with this)
How to Secure Your Rebate / incentive:
Ready to go solar? Here’s how to get started:
- Evaluate Your Eligibility: Assess your home’s energy usage patterns, specific energy needs, and suitability for solar installations.
- Select an Authorized Solar Retailer: Get quotes from at least three Solar Victoria authorized retailers. Investigate their track record, customer feedback, and commitment to sustainable practices.
- Initiate Your Application: Choose your preferred quote and retailer, then complete the initial eligibility application on the Solar Victoria Portal. Prepare your identity proof, income documentation, and property ownership evidence.
- Schedule Installation: After receiving approval, arrange the installation with your selected retailer. Enjoy the advantages of your new solar installations!
